| Other | Born in Wythe County, Virginia; came to Monroe County [Ind.] at the age of 14 and came to Martinsville in 1840. He was married to Miss Polly Parks, April 19th, 1829. They had 8 children, 4 of whom are still living. First wife died July 27th, 1868." He was a boatman on the White River, and "made 23 trips to New Orleans." (In the Martinsville Republican for Feb. 24, 1881, he claimed to have made the most trips of all the boat pilots on the White River.) He lived in California 2 years. "He was married to Mrs. Cassandra Parks December 21st, 1870 and after 13 1/2 years of happy wedded life, he was again called to mourn his loss in her (his wife's) death. He died at the residence of Dr. Tarleton, his son-in-law. He died on Sunday the 18th at the age of nearly 81." [From Noah J.
