Civil War veteran: 12th Indiana Regt. Died in Mooresville; born near Salem. "He was the brother of Dr. Thornburgh of Martinsville, Illinois and Amos Thornburgh, and sisters, Mrs. W.H. Dryden and Mrs. Ada Woodward." Preceded in death by wife, and "daughter, Mrs. O.E. Rooker, who died a few years ago." "He was always interested in local, state, and national issues." He had a thriving business in Mooresville: "J.H. Thornburgh & Co., manufacturers of boots and shoes and general dealers in hats and caps, clothing and gents' furnishing goods. Established business in 1865. Occupied rooms in the Odd Fellows Building on Main Street."
