Born in Bourbon Co, Ky." He was "well liked and respected in the community...Died at his home in Mooresville. He was a well known farmer and formerly lived in Madison Township." [The Mooresville Guide for May 11, 1900 has a long article about the Indian village and French mission that once stood on the land owned by Mr. Stone. A band of Kentuckians supposedly wiped out the village in a massacre in 1795. In 1863, while building the Waverly-Indianapolis gravel road, a pit was found there with many bones.] Eli's grandfather Nimrod Stone was one of the earliest settlers of Madison Township. |
