| Other | Age 70 years, 9 months, and 21 days. Married in 1818 in Barren Co., Kentucky; moved to Indiana soon after marriage. Father of nine children: James E., Thomas P., Mary J., Zachariah, Elizabeth B., John Sims, Eliza A., Jonathan W., and Madison V. Skaggs. [Source: article by Noble K. Littell in the Morgan Co. Gazette, April 29, 1971.] He had a farm near Cope in Green Township, also engaged in logging operations and operated threshing machines. Late in his life, he lost both arms in an accident with either a threshing machine or a clover huller, or possibly a corn shredder. "Died at his residence near Cross Roads in Green Township...For several years, Mr. Skaggs had to go to Jackson County and to Blue River to mill. He had raised a family of nine children -- all living, married and doing well." [From the Morgan Co.
