| Other | Age 91. Born in Diersheim, Baden, Germany on November 1, 1786. Fought in Napoleonic wars. ["In the little cemetery beside the Bethesda Church lies one of Napoleon's brave soldiers." -- A Brief History of the First Methodist Church in Mooresville, Indiana.] Married Margaret House in 1815, and in 1817 they emigrated to this country, sailing from Amsterdam; landed in Baltimore in September after a perilous voyage. While at sea, their only child [Laura Alice] was taken sick and died. Settled in Prince William Co., Va., where they stayed for 19 years and where their other 8 children were born. Was an early settler of Morgan County, coming to Mooresville by wagon from Virginia in 1836. Wife died Feb. 9, 1849. "Never a healthy man: nervous spells, bronchial afflication, and almost totally deaf." Carpenter; member of Lutheran Church. Father of 9 children: Laura Alice, Margaret L.A., George E., John, Frederick, Daniel, Catherine B., William, and David P. |
