Other | The people were shocked Saturday, to hear that William A. Ryan was found dead. He lived 1/2 mile north of Eminence. He had been shot in the head, and 7 shots had entered his brain. "Sudden Death -- Last Saturday afternoon, William A. Ryan of Adams Township was found dead. It was determined by the coroner that he had NOT been shot, as originally reported. It was thought that he had had a heart attack and fell on some gravel, giving the appearance that he had been shot." "William A. Ryan was the 2nd son of John and Elizabeth Ryan. He was 63 years, 8 months and 15 days old at the time of death. He was born in Campbell County, Tennessee. His parents, with their 6 children, moved to Indiana in 1835. While en route, the father died near New Albany, leaving a wife and 6 children, the oldest being 12 years of age. The family continued north, settling at Little Mount, Owen Co., Ind., where they remained until 1841, when they moved to Eminence. His mother died in 1849. He married Louisa J. Walters 29 October 1848, and they had 9 children; 7 still survive: 4 daughters and 3 sons. Two sons, William H. and John C., have died. He was married to Louisa for 35 years. [She died in October 1883.] He married his present wife 4 November 1884 [in Putnam County]." |
