| Other | Age 42 years, 4 months, and 4 days. Born near Richmond, Indiana; son of William and Rebecca. Lost his father at an early age; his guardians placed him at the age of 12 at Friends Boarding School, now Earlham College, where he remained nearly 5 years. Moved to Morgan County when he was 18. First assisted Isaac Jones in teaching near Monrovia, then served as principal at Bethel for about 10 years; afterwards he was engaged in the Mooresville High School for 2 years. Married Mary Hadley while at Bethel; she died after 7 happy years together. Mr. Pool then retired from teaching and engaged in the mercantile business for the last 12 years of his life: "Pool & Hadley, druggists and general dealers in groceries, iron, hardware, books and stationery, notions, etc.; established business in 1864 and by energy and strict attention to business have inaugurated quite an extensive business. They carry a large and carefully selected stock of pure drugs and medicines and every department is full." In 1868, married Louisa W. Hiatt of Richmond. She died in December 1872. |
