| Other | Age 77. Born in St. Joseph Co., Michigan; eldest of five children of Prosper and Mary O. Robinson Perce. Father died in 1854. Benjamin moved to Greencastle, Ind. in 1857; came to Mooresville two years later. Civil War veteran: Corporal in Co. E, Twelfth Indiana Volunteer Infantry. Received a sunstroke in 1864 which cost him his right eye. Served until June 1865. Graduated as Doctor of Medicine from Indiana Medical College in 1873; began medical practice in Mooresville that spring. Married Eunice Ann Coombs, daughter of Jacob and Jemima Coombs, on May 14, 1867, in Mooresville. They had two children together: Henry, who died in infancy, and Elsie Gertrude. Eunice died Sept. 18, 1874. In April 1876, the doctor married Elvira Hornaday, daughter of Simon and Martha Hornaday, at Plainfield. They had two children: Edith, who died in infancy, and Mary. Buried in Perce family plot, Mooresville Cemetery. |
