To them were born 27 children, of whom 24 lived...All his relatives attended his funeral Monday...He had lived in this county for 67 years...Born near Fayetteville, North Carolina, 16 October 1806 [does not agree with cemetery index] and came to Indiana in 1819. He and his wife had 26 children but only 7 lived to adulthood and but 2 of them, a son and a daughter, are living today. 3 of his sons were in the Civil War." Listed as a legal voter in Clay Twp., Morgan Co., Ind. in 1833. [From the Martinsville Republican for July 31, 1890: "William Parker of Clay Township was born in North Carolina, October 26th, 1800, and emigrated to Indiana in 1819 and settled near Versailles, Ripley County, where he met Miss Delilah Ray, who had emigrated from Crabb Orchard, Kentucky. She is 15 days younger than him, and settled in Clay Township 35 years ago. They are the parents of 26 children; 3 are still living at this time."] |
