He was married to Martha Coleman in 1825, with whom he had lived in uninterrupted happiness until her death in 1869. They had 3 children, one dying in infancy. The other 2, daughters, who were married but now are dead, were Martha, who married Aaron T. Wiley, and Emiline, who married Albert K. Taylor. Mr. Mitchell had learned both the gunsmith and cabinet trade.
