Other Age 35. "Attacks Marshal And Is Shot -- Desperate Street Fight -- End of a Turbulent Career." Died of gunshot wounds after he and Ben Elkins attacked Marshal Henry Beeler in the street on a Sunday afternoon. (McNaught and Elkins were intent on beating Lincoln Creek for revealing that McNaught was bootlegging again. When they were prevented from their assault on Mr. Creek, they set upon the Marshal, who fired five shots.) Coroner's inquest held at Carlisle Undertaking room. Funeral Tuesday afternoon from the residence. Shortly after arriving in Mooresville, "it was soon discovered that he was running a blind tiger in the barn at the rear of his residence on East Main Street, [which] soon became the headquarters for the disorderly element here and was having a demoralizing effect on the town." He had been married; his wife died. He had children, some of whom were adopted or took the name Macy.
