| Other | Age almost 86. "Born in Spotsylvania County, West Virginia; was of Irish descent. His mother came to this country from Ireland at the age of 7. She married a Mr. Jiles in West Virginia, who was elected Sheriff but was shot and killed, leaving her a widow with 3 children. She married William Mannan of West Virginia, the father of the deceased. They moved to Harrison County, Indiana, and then to Owen County in 1822. To them were born 6 children, 3 boys and 3 girls. On the 4th of May 1834, William R. married Rebecca Chambers, and they moved to Morgan County, where he lived until his death on March 5. Rebecca died July 15, 1851; they had 9 children, 5 sons and 4 daughters. He then married Sarah J. Pemberton; they had 7 children, 3 girls and 4 boys. While his mother was Catholic, he himself joined the Baptist Church." |
