Other | Father: Rev. William Turner of Bloomington. Married Washington Conduitt; he died three years later. In 1866, she married Franklin Landers, who was 20 years older than she was. "She and her father made a Presbyterian out of Franklin Landers, and he gave the Tabernacle Presbyterian Church here $5,000 when they built the church at 11th and Meridian Street. He made a Democrat out of her." Martha and Franklin had seven children together: William (who died in infancy), Franklin (died age 4), Dwight Conduitt (died 1918), Julia Ethel, Pearl, Thomas Ewing, and Martha Esther. Congressman Landers died Sept. 11, 1901. |
