He was born in Botetort County, Virginia in 1819, making him 66 years old [at the time of death]. He emigrated to Indiana in 1836. It is not known what year he came to [Martinsville]...His wife preceded him to that better land some 23 years ago. He had 2 sons who fought in the Civil War and who have died.
