Other | Born in Hendricks County, Ind., about 2 1/2 miles northwest of Mooresville, and "is to be ranked as one of the pioneers of the country." Parents: Samuel and Mary (Thompson) Harryman. Family moved to Morgan County in 1835. Worked at saddlery and harness making trade until around 1858 or 1860, when he entered upon the practice of law. During Civil War, was a Captain on the staff of General Ward, Co. D, 70th Indiana. Elected to office of Clerk of Morgan Circuit Court. Superintendent of the district fair, general manager of the Old Settlers Meeting, and very prominent in the community. Master Mason, member of the I.O.O.F., the Good Templars, Sons of Temperance and of the M.E. church; active in W.C.T.U. member church choir. |
