They had 3 children: Michael, Mary J., and Winfield S. "John Hammons died Sunday. Mrs. Hammons and their daughter Mrs. Rosengarten were unable to attend the funeral because of sickness in the family. The deceased was born in Virginia in 1809 and a week ago he was 84 years old. He came to Indiana in 1830. Married Sarah Stockwell and they had 3 children: Mrs. Mary Kitchen, Michael and Scott Hammons. In 1863, his first wife died, and 3 years later, he married Mrs. Amanda Lake. Mrs. J.J. Hilton was an adopted daughter of Mr. Hammons."
