Other | Age 78. Born in Chatham Co., N.C.; son of David and Sarah Staley Fox. Civil War veteran: Co. K, 21st Ind. Vol. Inf. (later known as the 1st Reg. Heavy Artillery.) Enlisted on July 13, 1861 at Indianapolis. Sent to Baltimore, stationed at Camp Dix; moved to Camp Murray, then to Fort Marshall. Hospitalized for 5 weeks in 1861 with the measles. Attached to Gen. Butler's New Orleans Expedition. Discharged for disability due to lung disease, Oct. 20, 1862. Married first wife on Sept. 18, 1864; they had 3 children: Leonard, Charles and Louis Taylor. Paulina died in 1869. Married second wife, the widow of John Moore, on Oct. 17, 1871; they had 4 children: Rachel, Fred, John and Laura. Sarah died March 2, 1912. At the time of his death, Taylor had been living in the home of his daughter, Laura (Mrs. Frank Evans). |
