"Jacob Elmore, living 5 miles west of Monrovia, was killed by his horse running away and throwing him out of his buggy, at the same time breaking his wife's thigh and badly bruising his child." "A horrible accident occurred near Eminence, in this county, on Saturday last. Mr. Jacob Elmore, his wife and little daughter were returning from Eminence in a one-horse buggy, when the horse became frightened from some cause, and ran away, throwing Mr. Elmore, wife, and child out of the buggy, breaking Mr. Elmore's leg in two places, also one of his arms and otherwise injuring him that he died in a few hours after (sic). Mrs. Elmore had one leg broken but will probably recover. The child was but slightly hurt. Mr. Elmore resided in Adams Township...and was a good citizen." Born in Kentucky; son of John B. and Lavinia Salsman Elmore.
