Other Age 40. Born in Mercer Co., Ky.; son of Albert and Polly Basnett Duree. Married in 1828 in Montgomery Co., Ky. Father of 8 children: Nancy Lavina, Albert Harmon, Philip, Lucyrine/Lucy Rhene, Mary A., Samuel, John Daniel, and Henry T. He was one of the earliest settlers of Madison Twp., Morgan Co., Ind., and was also one of the first schoolteachers there. He taught school in a cabin on his own property. "He died in middle age and was buried on his own land. There is nothing to mark his grave except a couple of rough stones and a walnut tree, perhaps 18 inches in diameter, that is growing over the head of his grave." (Source: article on Madison Twp. history in the Mooresville Guide, April 30, 1897.) He was an invalid for several years before he died. "He made the first wooden mold-board plow that superceded the old bar-shear plow." His sons moved to Missouri after his death.
