| Other | Notorious bank robber who received much media attention for a short career of robberies and escapes from September 1933 to July 1934. Was shot by police and federal agents in Chicago. There was a public viewing of the body at Cook County Morgue, then the body was taken to McCready Funeral Home. His family brought his body home, where services were held at the home of Dillinger's sister, Audrey Hancock, in Maywood. The body was next taken to the Harvey Funeral Home in Mooresville for visitation. He was buried on Wednesday, July 25, in Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis. [He was born in the Oak Hill neighborhood of Indianapolis, but spent his adolescence on a farm just outside Mooresville. His new home town was the site of his first robbery, of a local grocer.] His father was highly regarded and well respected in town. |
