He was a native of Randolph County, North Carolina, where he was born in 1790. Fifty-two years ago, he and his wife, who is the same age and still survives, came to this area and settled on the west bank of the White River, purchasing 1,000 acres with money he received from his father's estate. They had seven children who, after living to years of maturity, have all died." Father of Asa, Mary, Delilah, Larkin, Alice, Rachel, Dennis, and John B. Cox.
