Other | Age 78. "Mrs. Martha Clapper died Sunday at her home. Martha Jane Clapper was the youngest of 5 children of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Cox, and was born at High Rock, Morgan County. Mr. and Mrs. Cox came to Indiana from Pennsylvania in 1820, and built and operated the mill at High Rock until 1850, when Mr. Cox went to California to prospect for gold. Shortly after reaching San Francisco, he died. In 1845, Martha Jane Cox married George W. Clapper, who was born in Pennsylvania and moved to Ohio before coming to Martinsville. He operated mills on Indian Creek, Clear Creek and High Rock, where he met Martha. He purchased an interest in the mill and operated it until their children started high school, when the family moved to Martinsville...Martha's funeral was held at her home Tuesday." |
