Married first wife Loving (Lovey) Jackson on Jan. 3, 1836, in Morgan Co.; she lived only a few years. On Sept. 10, 1843, married Delilah Dorrel, who survives with 8 children, nearly all of whom are grown. Mr. Carlisle's father was a soldier in the War of 1812. Member of the M.E. Church, where he was a class leader for about 30 years and a steward for a long time. Supported himself as a blacksmith at the age of 15. [From the Diary of Elam Harvey for Oct. 26, 1877: "Bro. (Wm.) Carlisle died this afternoon about two o'clock after four weeks of great suffering. One leg was mortified almost to the knee...In his death the church loses a staunch defender and heaven gains a spirit."] |
