Other | Age 75 years, 2 months, 28 days. Born in New York city, son of John T. and Sarah Reese Calvert; he was the youngest of their 4 children. Father was from Rhode Island, mother from Pennsylvania; both of English extraction. Family moved to Cincinnati when J.P. was still an infant. Mother died there in 1844; father died less than a year later. J.P. lived in Louisville, Ky. and Columbus, Ohio; came to Indiana in the spring of 1863. On Oct. 26, 1863, joined Co. I, 63rd Ind. Vol. Infantry. Mustered out of service on April 10, 1866. Went to Plainfield, Ind.; studied photography. Opened art gallery in Mooresville, Ind. in Feb. 1867. Married Delia Perce on May 19, 1868. They had five children: Archie B., Percy H., Bertha Emma, Lennetta May, and Gertrude. Member of M.E. Church. Well-known and highly regarded photographer; his studio was on Harrison Street and then Main Street in Mooresville. Buried in the family plot in Mooresville Cemetery. Three daughters preceded him in death. |
