Other | Age 76. "Dr. B.D. Blackstone -- Benjamin Doddridge Blackstone, son of William and Julia Doddridge Blackstone, was born in Clarksville, Clinton County, Ohio and died in Martinsville, Ind. He was married to Mary Jewett Morris in April 1850; to them was born a daughter, Mary Morris Blackstone, who died in Martinsville in September 1852. Wife Mary died at their home in Athens, Ohio 7 February 1851. In June 1860, he married Mary Jane Reynolds of Bloomington, and to them were born 3 children: Julia D., William W. and Charles. Mrs. Reynolds had a son Costello at the time of her marriage to Dr. Blackstone. William died in November 1881. Julia (Mrs. Dr. Kissenger) and Charles still live in this city. Dr. Blackstone's wife died in this city 15 May 1901. He was found, unconscious, at his office and was taken home, where he died. He had been a resident of this town for 50 years." [From the Martinsville Republican for Dec. 16, 1875: "Cozzie (Costello) Reynolds, the stepson of Dr. Blackstone, was shot and probably fatally injured in Sigourney, Iowa last Friday."] [From the same newspaper, March 30, 1876 edition: "Dr. B.D. Blackstone of this town left on Wednesday last for Sigourney, Iowa to attend the trial of his stepson, Costello Reynolds."] |
