He was the first man in the Mooresville area to make an anti-slavery speech in the days before the Civil War. Married Miss Carter on Jan. 21, 1836; they had seven children, 4 sons and 3 daughters. Five children have died: Caswell B., James O., Anna E., Hannah C., and Nancy E. Wife Jane died Feb. 22, 1888. |
