| Other | Age 87 years, 5 months, and 10 days. Born in Culpepper Co., Va. on June 25, 1792. Parents: James and Sarah (Duval) Randolph. At an early age, moved with parents to Bath Co., Ky., where she married Andrew McNabb in 1819. Baptised with husband in 1825. Moved with a number of relatives and friends from Kentucky to Morgan County, Ind. around 1830. She and husband and 17 others organized Mt. Gilead Church, 4 miles east of Mooresville, in March 1835. Known in the community as "Aunt Betsey." Husband died June 1855. She once wore a fashionable hoop skirt to church at Mt. Gilead, followed to church by her faithful dog, who napped at her feet during the sermon -- until the preacher clapped his hands, and then the dog jumped up, got his head caught in the hoops, and pandemonium took over. "When Aunt Betsy returned home, she threw what was left of her skirt on the fire," vowing never to be "cotched with one of them things on again at church, style or no style." Moved to Mooresville from old farm in 1869 with John L. and Sallie Knox. Mother of 5 children. |
