Other | Born in Highland Co., Ohio. Parents were natives of North Carolina and were of the Society of Friends. Came to Indiana as a young man. Was a teacher until commissioned by state of Indiana to organize the county of Hendricks. First sheriff of that county. Married Rachel Coffin in 1828. Settled in Mooresville, Ind. Had a cabinet shop there, but was soon chosen assessor of Morgan County and then elected Auditor. Moved with family in 1857 to Clarke Co., Iowa, where he farmed, was justice of the peace, and represented county in state legislature. Wife died in 1863. Member of Christian Church. Died at the age of 78, in Villisca, Iowa. |
