Other | Age 71. Civil War veteran: Surg., Co. A, 27 Ind. Vol.; also Capt., Morgantown Rifles. Odd Fellows member. "Dr. Jarvis J. Johnson died at his home Friday after the marriage of his daughter Zora Isis and Harry E. Askew, Tuesday, September 19th. Dr. Johnson was born near Bedford. After medical school, he located at Morgantown in the spring of 1849. He married Miss Catharine Griffitt, 29 March 1851, and they had 7 children, 4 daughters and 3 sons. Emma, a daughter, died in infancy; the other daughters are: Mrs. J.P. Baldwin, Mrs. J.G. Bain and Mrs. Harry E. Askew. Foots, a son, died in childhood. The other sons are Goldsmith Johnson and James J. Johnson of Bedford. First wife died 19 May 1887. He married again, 3 June 1894, to Miss Jennie Moran, and they had a daughter, Helen. He was a Captain in the Civil War and was captured at Winchester, Virginia. Later he moved to Martinsville. He was buried at Morgantown with Masonic and G.A.R. honors." |
