Other | Mrs. Elizabeth Graham was born in Kentucky. She was the daughter of Judge Gray and Mary Gray. She came with her parents to Martinsville in the 13th year of her age. Here she grew up to womanhood. In the year of 1830, she was married to J.J. Graham. She was the mother of 7 children; three of them preceded her to the spirit world, one in infancy and two living to adult age, namely Mrs. Clutch and Mrs. Davis. In the month of November 1845, her husband died, leaving her a widow with six small children. She died May 16th in the 74th year of her age...Mrs. Graham was one of the earliest citizens of Martinsville, coming here with her father's family in 1820. Her father, Judge Gray, was one of four liberal citizens who donated 40 acres each for the county seat, before Martinsville was laid out. The others were Mr. Taylor, father of our fellow citizen Wm. Stipp; 2) Mary Howel|Widow, Mary; 6 children.|Age 84. Born in Bourbon Co., Kentucky, August 24, 1795; son of John and Mary Moore Cartnell Wall. From here he moved to Champaign County, Ohio and was married to Mary M. Stipp [Oct. 3, 1816]. In 1823, he came to this state and stopped with his father-in-law, John A. Stipp, on what is now the Widow Barnard's farm, in this township. In a few months, he moved on to the farm then known as the Jacob Cutter farm, but now owned by Minter Parks, one mile North of Martinsville. After some three or four years, he moved on to the farm of Mike Stipp, near Record's Ferry...He was a nephew of Col. Garret Walls, [who was a soldier in] the War of 1812. He was one of the first to run a flat boat out of White River. After the death of his first wife in 1865, he married Mary Howel. She still survives him. He was the father of 11 children, 6 of which survive him." Children: Eliza Ann, John Stipp, Susannah, Mary Eve, William, Priscilla, Benjamin Martin, Orpha Jane, Jonathan, George W., and Garrett. |
