Other | Age 92. Born Sept. 3, 1794 in Guilford Co., North Carolina; son of John and Susannah Johnson Bales/Beals. [From the Diary of Anna Stanton Harvey for April 26, 1888: "Just after noon, Dillon Haworth called to tell us of the sudden death of Eleazer Bales yesterday. Apparently as well as usual, he was sitting in his chair, and had been talking when suddenly he told Esther he was blind. She immediately went to him, but he had breathed his last already..." April 27th: "Ada went with Sarah and Mahlon Johnson to attend the funeral at Sugar Grove. It was very large indeed, 75 or 85 vehicles were in the procession; not near all could get into the Meeting. Eleazor was in his 94th year and was well known and respected."] Married four times. Married first wife in Guilford Co. on Oct. 12, 1814; they had 8 children together: Mary, Louisa C. (Anna), Asenath Hunt, Susannah, Margaret, Jane, and twins Malinda and Lucinda. Wife Ann died in 1839. Married second wife on April 14, 1841 in Hendricks Co., Ind. Married for the third time on July 27, 1846 in Morgan Co., Ind. Married his fourth wife on Dec. 12, 1853 in Hendricks Co. [From a letter from Elmina Moon to Owen Lindley, Jan. 1854: "I must tell what a fine wedding went off in Plainfield a few weeks ago...It was...our Rev. old friend Eleazor Beals and Esther Owens, they are united in the sacred ties of matrimony, this being the fourth time for Eleazor."] |
