| Other | A Good Mother Goes to Rest -- Mrs. Rebecca Douglass was born July 5th, 1799 in Washington County, Virginia, where she remained until 1809, when her father, John Collins, moved with her family to the Territory of Indiana and settled in the area now known as Franklin County. Her father and family emigrated to Morgan County July 4th, 1818. There were but a few white settlers here then, but one of this number [was] Johnson Douglass, a widower [with] two children. She married him in 1825 [actual marriage date: June 24, 1824] but he died 6 years later. Thus she was left a widow at the age of 30 years, with four small children. Lived in Green Township, near Exchange. |
