Other | Age 60. "A.M. Johnson, one of our most prominent farmers, died last Saturday of consumption. He was buried at the Mooresville Cemetery and leaves a wife and several grown children." Born in New York; son of Daniel and Carrie Spangler Johnson. Married in New York around 1850. [From the Martinsville Reporter for Aug. 26, 1976, in an article about the Macy/Richardson/Johnson house: "Martin Ruble bought the home in 1882 and sold it a year later to A.M. Johnson, a rich merchant who made his money with barges on the Ohio River. He was supposed to have thought he would remove his son from bad influences and this would be a place to 'dry out.' There are still nail marks on the outside of an upstairs bedroom where Johnson locked his son in to prevent him going on a drunk."] |
