"Last Saturday about noon, the citizens of Cross Roads, Green Township, were startled by cries of a woman, and hastened to Jacob Weimer's blacksmith shop, from whence the cries arose. Mrs. Weimer had been stabbed in the side of the abdomen with an old worn butcher knife in the hands of her husband, Jacob Weimer. Mr. Weimer ran into the house, and after the citizens had taken care of Mrs. Weimer, they went into the house and found Mr. Weimer upstairs with his throat cut from ear to ear. Mr. Weimer was a hardworking German, 50 to 60 years of age." Born in Wurttemburg. [1860 census shows him living with a Sophia; 1870 census shows him with a Lanie; in both cases, his surname is shown as Werner. Cemetery index notes that his wife's name is Anna M., and that she died in 1855.]
