| Other | L.D. Moon Dead -- L.D. Moon died early this morning at his home near Brooklyn. He was 83 years old last Friday. He and Mrs. Moon had been married 63 years. [Cemetery index gives dates as 1817-1905.] [From the Martinsville Republican for July 31, 1902: "A Wedding Anniversary -- Tuesday Mr. and Mrs. L.D. Moon of Brooklyn celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. Lorenzo Dowe Moon, age 86, was born in Ohio and Rachel Thornburgh Moon, age 78, was born near Brooklyn. Mr. Moon's father was Simon Moon, who was a native of North Carolina; Mrs. Moon's parents were Benjamin and Susan Thornburgh, who were both Kentuckians. Mr. Moon's brother Riley of Oklahoma is the only relative on his father's side. Mrs. Moon has several living brothers and sisters. They are: J.H. Thornburgh of Mooresville, age 80; Amos Thornburgh of Martinsville, age 75; Dr. D.P. Thornburgh of Martinsville, age 77; Mrs. Ada W. Woodward of Martinsville, age 65; Mrs. William H. Dryden of Martinsville, age 60; and Mrs. Henry H. Jorner of Joplin, Missouri, age 65. Their only surviving children are O.C. Moon of Sandburn and Melville Moon of Indianapolis."] Father of: Martha E., Orlando Clinton, Leander, and Melville. |
