He came with his parents [Samuel and Elizabeth Anne Wilkinson McCracken], when a child, to [Morgan] county and was raised and educated in Brown Township. He came to Martinsville in 1835; was united in marriage with Miss M. Crane March 17th, 1844. They had eight children but four have died. He was the County Recorder from 1840 to 1857. He was a Quaker and died at 6 o'clock P.M. September 2nd." [Note: cemetery index gives date of death as August 2, 1879.] |
