Rooker, who a few years ago made his home in Mooresville, died at his son's residence in Indianapolis last Friday and was buried here Saturday...Samuel S. Rooker, of Indianapolis, father of John S. Rooker of this city, died in Indianapolis...He was one of the oldest Masons in this state." He was a chair maker and sign painter. [From the Morgan Co. Republican for Dec. 15, 1870: "Samuel S. Rooker vs. Margaret Rooker, divorce granted."][From the Mooresville Enterprise for Dec. 18, 1873: "Married on Saturday evening the 13th, by Rev. Mr. Tabor, Mr. Samuel S. Rooker of Mooresville to Mrs. Lucy Ann Leonard of Green Township."] Married third wife on Nov. 19, 1879. [From the Martinsville Republican for Oct. 7, 1886, a story copied from the Indianapolis Journal about "Samuel F. (sic) Rooker, one of the first settlers of Indianapolis and the first sign painter in the city. He now lives in Martinsville and is 86 years old.
