"Born in Maryland, and emigrated at an early age to Jefferson County, Kentucky, where he grew up and married. He came to Morgan County in 1832, and the first year, rented land from Tobias Butler. As a young man, he entered the Army of the Northwest, from Kentucky, and served in the campaign against the Indians in the Upper Wabash in 1812. He was a member of Captain Jones Company, and the Regiment Commander was Col. Wilcox. He raised a large number of children, all of which are living except Geo. A.
