| Other | Miss Cora Seaman, daughter of James Seaman, and who formerly lived in this city, died this morning. She was 22 years old. [Article in the Martinsville Republican for Sept. 24, 1903: "Fain Grady, age 18, shot and wounded Miss Cora Seaman, age 20. He was infatuated with her and thought that she was his property. He had threatened her before and...others that dated her, but had never followed through with his threats even though at times he had used a gun. Finally, he actually fired a gun and wounded her. Afterwards, he attempted suicide with carbolic acid, but since it burnt as he tried to swallow it, he didn't go through with it."] |
