Parks, in his day, one of our foremost and most wealthy citizens. P.S. was a former lawyer in Kansas but had a drinking problem, even when he returned to Martinsville. His prospects were blighted, his home broke up, and for the last twelve years or so, he has been a lonely, homeless outcast...[he] was genial, kind hearted and companionable. His money, heart and purse were always open to the poor and needy. He was a born newspaper man and had a column in the Republican under the head of Shell Barks. The funeral will occur tomorrow at 10 o'clock from the residence of E.F. Branch. "...was buried in the family lot in Hill Dale Cemetery. He was born at Mt. Tabor, Monroe County...He attended the State University at Bloomington and practiced law at Martinsville...Later, he left the area and practiced law in Leavenworth, Kansas and eventually entered politics in that state." Unmarried. |
