| Other | Age 73 years, 3 months, and 8 days. Born near Covington, Ky. Parents: Charles and Mary Kilgore Record. His grandfather helped Daniel Boone settle Kentucky. Married Margaret Reynolds, the niece of an early Centerton settler, Isaiah Downey, on March 10, 1836. The couple had five children; Margaret died in 1844. Married Priscilla Wall on June 12, 1845 in Morgan Co., Ind. She was the granddaughter of John Stipp, an early settler of Centerton, and a descendant of the Wall family of New York, for whom Wall Street is named. The couple had 13 children; Priscilla died in 1881. Jackson owned around 800 acres near Centerton. He built a log cabin on the flat lands near Blue Bluff and navigated a flatboat down the White River. He later built a white two-story mansion near what is now State Road 67 near Bradford Woods; the house was demolished when 67 was expanded. "Uncle Jack Record furnishes the paper information on early times in [Morgan] county...He named those people...who acted as boat pilots on White River...[List followed]...Jack Record says he made the quickest trip made, in 19 days." -- Martinsville Republican, Feb. 24, 1881 |
