| Other | Age 93. Born Feb. 20, 1792. (Known as "Uncle Toby.") "He was born in Frederick County, Maryland...When [he was] quite small his father moved to Ohio. He moved from there to Kaskaskia, Missouri, where he lived about 2 years, when he moved from there to Jefferson County, Kentucky. When about 16 years old, he went back to Maryland and there learned the tanning trade. When the War of 1812 broke out, he went to Baltimore and joined the Army...He was present at the funeral of George Washington. He moved back to Kentucky and there married Elizabeth Waller in 1818, she living but a few years. On June 21, 1826, he married Sally Reed, she living only 4 months. In 1827, he came to Indiana and settled on the place on which he died. In 1827, he was married to Sally Goss, by whom he had 6 children, four of whom are now living. She died in 1838. In 1856, while visiting in Kentucky, he married Elizabeth Russell, who is still living." Buried with full Masonic honors; had been a Mason for 72 years. |
