[John Hawks and Joanna Atwood] Butterfield, was born Feb. 7, 1805 in Vermont, and removed with his parents to Morgan County in 1817. He lived near Brooklyn for 79 years. He died Nov. 1, 1893." Married Clarissa Badgley, daughter of Benjamin Badgley of Green Township, on May 1, 1828, in Morgan Co., Ind. They had 14 children together, six of whom have died. Wife died July 27, 1876. He married his second wife, Martha S. Laughlin, a widow, on Sept. 6, 1877. Was listed as a legal voter in Clay Twp. in 1833; was one of the boat pilots on the White River. "His honesty and integrity were unquestionable." |
