Other Age 85. Born on the island of Nantucket; son of Barzillai and Mary Pinkham Worth. He was the youngest of their 5 children; named after his paternal grandfather. [There is some confusion as to his place of birth. Most sources say Nantucket, but 1850-1880 censuses give his birthplace as New York.] Moved to Indiana with brother Alexander; settled in Plainfield, moved to Mooresville in 1846. Married Rebecca White on Nov. 13, 1836 in Morgan Co., Ind. Published Mooresville Chronicle for 2 years; moved to Martinsville and started Gazette. Sold it in 1855. Moved back to Plainfield. Mooresville Monitor of Jan. 5, 1883: "Plainfield has the champion old man..."Uncle Tommy", [who] has gone skating every day this winter...skates all day as nimble as a boy of twelve, and in the evening takes his fiddle and fiddles till late in the night." [In his book, "Ye Old Pioneers" (1875), John Matthews noted that "the first newspaper in Morgan County was published at Mooresville by Thomas J. Worth, a little cross-eyed Yankee."]
