Veteran of the Civil War: Co. E, 146 Ind.; enlisted in 1865, when he was 19 years old, at Greensburg. "Encamped in the Shenandoah Valley, Virginia, near Winchester. Although he saw no service, he was trained in camp and ready to go to war when the Civil struggle ended. It was while he lived at Shelbyville before his enlistment that Abraham Lincoln, in 1861, passed through Indiana, and Mr. Thompson was privileged to see him.
