Married Nancy Monical on Sept. 17, 1837 in Morgan Co. Father of nine children, 6 boys and 3 girls. Four of the children have died. Nancy died Dec. 25, 1879. Afterwards he married Amanda Strader [on Nov. 7, 1886.]" [Note: Nancy's tombstone gives her date of death as Feb. 17, 1877.] "Rix Newby, of Brooklyn...died Monday. He was one of the oldest and [most] respected citizens of Clay Township [Morgan Co.] and was a brother to Joseph Newby of Mooresville." He was a casket maker in the early days of Mooresville.
